Mazu crown paper hat
About the project
Packaging
This project is part of a design series for Chiayi Tianhou Temple, created in collaboration with the “Hinoki Train” experience. Visitors can redeem a Mazu crown paper hat with their ticket. Inspired by Mazu’s ceremonial headdress, the design reinterprets traditional paper hat structures, preserving phoenix ornaments and the iconic beaded curtain, while introducing a unique die-cut form rarely seen in such items. The playful design allows wearers to instantly embody Mazu, making cultural traditions more approachable. Each piece also includes a small protective charm, inviting both adults and children to participate and receive blessings.
